What it assesses A comprehensive intervention program for young children with autism in inclusive classrooms, the DATA Model includes an assessment checklist to measure children’s functional needs and interventions to increase children’s developmental progress.
Components The manual includes everything you need: an assessment tool called the Skills Checklist to determine what skills to address and to monitor progress, and 150 instructional programming sheets.
Age range
Ages 3–5
Where it is conducted Inclusive early childhood programs, such as public preschools, Head Start programs, private child care/preschools, and mental health or behavioral health centers
Who conducts it Early interventionists, early childhood educators and special educators, paraprofessionals, applied behavior analysts
What areas does it assess? The Skills Checklist assessment covers 6 domains:
- Adaptive
- Executive Functioning
- Cognitive
- Communication
- Social
- Play
How long does it take? The DATA Model is implemented on an ongoing basis during the school year. Children in the DATA Model spend 20 hours a week in school-based educational setting. They spend a minimum of ten hours a week in an inclusive preschool setting and ten hours a week in an intensive, instructional setting.
Training Educators and applied behavior analysts can implement this model with the information provided in the manual. Additional training is available from the authors.
