• Ask your child what will happen next in the story.

• Ask your child to explain his or her predictions.

• Allow your child a chance to look at the pictures and to think about what will happen in the story before you turn a page.

• Give your child a chance to talk about the story. Talk more about what your child has to say to find out what he might be thinking.

## What Might Happen Next?

**Purpose:**

**Process:**

To encourage the child to practice making predictions by having the adult use appropriate and timely prompts.

1. Each adult and child are given 3 of the 12 activity sheets. Mix them up so that each dyad has different combinations.

2. The adult and child will talk about what they think will happen next on the basis of the picture.

3. The adult will then write down his or her and the child’s ideas under the picture.

4. After each adult and child is done, ideas and pictures will be shared.
