Preverbal communication and engagement between children and their caregivers build an essential foundation for language and learning—but many children with disabilities and their families struggle to connect early in life and need support developing early communication skills. This coffee chat will uncover the importance of early communication prior to first words, plus strategies for supporting young children with disabilities and their families in this essential development. Led by the authors of the new book Building Preverbal Communication & Engagement, this presentation introduces attendees to the evidence-based Triadic Gaze Intervention (TGI) and how to use it to support children with disabilities and their families.
